Poprad is an important hub for tourists and a developing city in the area of Popradska Kotlina. The city is the main entrance gate to the High Tatras Mountains and the resorts located there. The city offers a very good infrastructure for tourists and locals, such as: various types of accommodation, many restaurants, a shopping centre, a train and coach station, an airport, a variety of entertainment, and a beautiful spa – Aqua City.
In the city centre, tourists can visit the Námestie Sv. Egídia square, which is surrounded by Baroque and Classicist burgher houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Visitors can also enjoy the Early-Gothic Roman-Catholic church of St. Egidius from the late 13th century, the Podtatranské múzeum, and the Tatra Gallery which are all located nearby.
One of the municipalities, which is part of Poprad and a must see place, is Spiššká Sobota. It is a charming neighbourhood with the best preserved medieval urban buildings in Slovakia according to the Town Monument Reserve from 1953.
One of the main attractions in Poprad is Aqua City. Aqua City is a water park and spa well known for its environmental awareness. They use geothermal water and solar energy to heat and power the resort making it self-powered. It has worldwide awards, such as the World’s Leading Green Resort. Visitors can stay in the accommodation located there, or just spend a day in Aqua City. There are options to access to the outdoor swimming pools only, or the whole complex, with its indoor pools, indoor spa, with more than 5 different saunas and Thai massage. It is a wonderful place to go and relax after a day hiking or skiing in the mountains.
