Wooden churches

Even non-religious people will be astonished and impressed by the amazing wooden churches found in Slovakia. Wooden churches are part of the Carpathian Mountain Area, and were added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 2008. There are various types, for example; the Gothic wooden churches, and the “articled” ones which were built under the article of laws issued by Emperor Leopold I at the end of the 17th century. Another type is the Greek Catholic which later on became Orthodox churches. Outside, tourists can admire the compact and organised structure made out of wood, in some cases without a single needle. The interior is decorated in the Baroque and Rococo styles.
